logo Turnieju Debat o MediachThe Media Debating competition is a cycle of Oxford-style debates held by students at secondary schools in our region. It is aimed to advance participants’ knowledge of the media and journalism, and to enhance their public speaking skills, including an organized and fact-based style of presentation. The project is also aimed to explore the potential offered by Oxford-style debating in media education.
It is organized by the Krakow Speaker Society together with the Institute of Journalism, Media and Social Communication, Jagiellonian University. The contest was originated and is coordinated by Anna Kulma, a third-year student of journalism and social communication.
Topics addressed by participants in the contest focus on the media and journalist work. The Oxford-style debate format leads to an in-depth analysis of problems discussed and promotes fact-based affirmative and negative argumentation. Discussions will be evaluated by experts from the Institute of Journalism, Media and Social Communication and Krakow Speaker Society.
The Media Debating competition and accompanying exploration of the potential offered by Oxford-style debating in media education take place annually. Current information about the project is provided at https://www.facebook.com/ksmowcow.
