ZESZYTY PRASOZNAWCZE (Media Research Issues) is one of the oldest Polish academic journals devoted to social, cultural, linguistic, psychological, political, legal, economic, technological, organizational and professional aspects of mass communication.

It is a peer-reviewed journal that is published quarterly by the Jagiellonian University Publishing House and Press Research Centre at the Institute of Journalism, Media and Social Communication in Cracow. This Media Research Journal is one of the oldest academic journals in Central Europe.

Articles, research papers, surveys, reviews, documents and reports are published quarterly in Polish, English, French and German. The articles and papers are devoted to various aspects of journalism, media environment, advertising, public relations, propaganda, public opinion, journalistic rhetoric, the history of media, media systems, readership research and many other areas of social communication.

Under the current title, Media Research Issues has been published continuously since 1960. For over six decades the journal has been making an extremely important contribution to the development of Polish media studies, serving subsequent generations of communication researchers, lecturers and students of journalism and social communication, journalists, editors, publishers, spokespersons and other representatives of media-related professions.

For many years the quarterly articles have been published by the Press Research Centre in Cracow, supervised by outstanding media scholars: Irena Tetelowska, Paweł Dubiel and last but not least, Professor Walery Pisarek who was an architect of Polish media studies and editor-in-chief of the journal for over 21 years from 1992-2012. He brought the journal to it's high standards. 

Our quarterly published dissertations of the luminaries of global media studies, among which we should mention professors who were regarded as most influential figures of their time, such as: Johan Galtung, Hamid Mowlana, James Halloran, Kaarle Nordenstreng, Mihai Coman, Hermann Boventer, Ian Connell, Shelton A. Gunaratne, czy Winfried Schulz, Michael Gallagher, Armand Mattelart, Fernand Terrou, John Willings, Luke Uka Uche, Tapio Varis, Tamas Szecskö, Tim Walters, Vladimir Holina, Colin Sparks, Slavko Splichal, Hans M. Kepplinger, Lutz M. Hagen and many other famous researchers who authored outstanding pieces of work that has influenced media scholars all over the world and built the foundations of our discipline.  

The rich tradition of the journal is built primarily by its authors. Media Research Issues published articles by: Władysław Bartoszewski, Roman Ingarden, Karol Jakubowicz, Krzysztof Kąkolewski, Zenon Klemensiewicz, Jerzy Łojek, Zbigniew Nęcki, Adam Przyboś, Jerzy Putrament, Jan Szczepański, Włodzimierz Szewczuk, Piotr Sztompka, Jerzy Toeplitz, Melchior Wańkowicz, Edmund Wnuk-Lipiński, Franciszek Adamski,  Tomasz Goban-Klas, Zygmunt Gostkowski, Jerzy Mikułowski Pomorski, Tomasz Mielczarek, among many others who are famous in Poland and abroad for their works and achievements in the Humanities and Social Sciences.

Media Research Issue is a journal recognised worldwide, indexed in international databases: ERIH PLUS (European Reference Index for the Humanities and Social Science), CEEOL (Central and Eastern European Online Library), CEJSH (The Central European Journal of Social Sciences and Humanities), Proquest Central, ERIH Plus, Index Copernicus International, Zeitschriftendatenbank (ZDB), Norwegian Social Science Data Services (NSD) or Google Scholar.  

Media Research Issue is one of the first and so far one and only academic journal that has become a subject and the main focus of an academic monograph, entitled: “Zeszyty Prasoznawcze — analiza zawartości (1957-2012). Metody, tematy, autorzy”, 471 pages, edited by Ryszard Filas, Paweł Płaneta and Maciej Kawka in 2016.

For over 62 years the journal, which was established in 1958, has published about 250 issues, and almost 2,000 articles and dissertations, book reviews and conference reports on a regular basis. 

Interdisciplinary research on media, carried out by linguists, sociologists, psychologists, historians, lawyers, film and cultural studies researchers, literature experts, philologists and philosophers, social communication, and public opinion researchers, can be found on hundreds of pages already printed out, and published online.

The list of reviewers is updated regularly. In 2019 and 2020 papers submitted to the journal have been reviewed by almost 90 reviewers from more than 50 universities in Poland and abroad. The Scientific Committee of the journal includes scholars from 14 countries.
