The Press Research Centre Department aims to continue the tradition of Press Research Centre, the oldest Polish scholarly institution that explored the media and their social impact.
Joint interest and passion of researchers from the Department are oriented towards seeking creative methods that may be used in media studies to address the challenges posed by interactive technologies and media convergence, by changes to the status and functions of traditional media, and transformations of the media as a source of information, knowledge and opinion in a post-modern world.
In addition to our joint focus on the methodology of research into media, we represent various areas of interest, beginning with (evident in light of our origins) studies into the heritage and future of Polish press and traditional media, analyses of popular culture and its relations with the media, observation of participative and community behaviours of users, ending with current problems, related to the impact of media in a dramatically changing world: hate speech, irrational discourses, fake news, undermining the feeling of safety among citizens, media responses to political, environmental and medical crises.
